riley was less than perfect while we were gone (but boscoe was a star)

i know you'll be shocked to hear this. but riley wasn't exactly the model house-guest at the Lo-Banks abode. some might describe his behavior as downright bad. first of all, he growled at the girl dogs he was staying with. he growled when one of them went too close to a bag of kibble (too close by riley standards, that is), and he growled again at meal time. not very friendly of him, considering that the three girl dogs were allowing him and boscoe to stay at their house and interrupt their routine for two weeks and sleep on their beds and play with their toys.

lo sent regular reports and photos, which i only saw occasionally--it was surprisingly hard to find internet cafes in paris, though i wasn't really looking that hard, to be honest. too busy eating crepes on the sidewalk, and staring dreamily at the Seine.

the day five report, which i didn't see until about day eight or nine, read:

another sunny day. boys eat breakfast al fresco every
day. riley was
in a mood last night where he'd growl at everyone who
came within 10
ft. but seems fine now. he loves snoozing on our
couch; it's his
favorite spot.

and then, a few days later, i got a message that was titled "escape from alcatraz."

yep, riley escaped from the yard. he somehow managed to jump over the fence when Lo was taking bailey and abby jo for a walk; how he got over that fence, i can't imagine. it's more than six feet high. (he has never escaped from our yard, and our fence is only about four feet high. but then, boscoe is always with him.)

Lo wrote that she was walking two of the dogs and heard the jingle-jingle of a dog collar and turned to see riley trotting down the street toward them. "About a dozen of my hairs turned white," she said.

the next day, riley escaped again. the next-door-neighbor had agreed to let the dogs out while lo was at work. she let out five dogs, but only four came back; she found riley wanering around free at the front of the house, and fortunately he obeyed when she told him to get back in the house.

yikes. i think we will be working on obedience training this spring...

the top picture is of the boys at lo's house. this picture below is of riley quenching his thirst after another daring escape.
