interlude: conehead dog

boscoe has had a sore on his right elbow for a month. Lo noticed it when she was taking care of them when we were in paris, so after we got back i brought him to the vet. our usual kent hrbek lookalike vet wasn't there that day, so we got the skateboarding spiky-haired dude who clearly prefers cats.

dude said boscoe needed antibiotics, and he prescribed two ointments as well.

it's been two weeks now, and the sore is as bad as ever. he licks off the ointment, and we've gone through all the antibiotics and they don't appear to have done anything.

so we've resorted to the dreaded collar, to keep him from licking the sore. he had to wear the conehead collar after his surgery when he blew out his ACL two years ago, and he hated it. it blocked his vision, he bumped into walls, he had trouble getting through doorways, and he got extremely agitated. (i know he looks like he's smiling in this picture, but he was panting out of agitation.) (plus he always makes a point to smile for the camera.)

so we bought an alternate collar online. it's called "the bite-not collar," though we call it "the bite me collar," to make boscoe feel a wee bit more macho.

it's a much more sensible collar--he can see, he can eat, he can lie down. but he can't turn his head, which means he can't get at his elbow for constant licking.

he still doesn't particularly like it, but at least he's not flailing around the kitchen and whimpering. poor guy will have to endure a week of this. and if it's still no better next weekend, we'll go see kent hrbek.
