Cujo

the other day i was on the couch, reading, and riley was curled up next to me. now if you've been paying any attention at all to this blog, you know that's pretty rare. riley is a standoffish dog. he usually curls up in the burgundy wingback chair, or lies on the rug in the hallway and stares at us from afar.
to cuddle on the couch is .... well, it brings out the Chester in him. (we have a special name for his nice side, because it makes him a completely different dog.)
boscoe trotted into the room and gathered himself for the leap onto the couch with us....when riley/chester.....growled at him.
whoa!
boscoe stopped. he looked a bit bewildered. he backed off. and then he climbed up into the burgundy wingback (no human has used that chair in six years) and went to sleep.
yipes. riley snuggled a little closer to me and went back to sleep.
hmmm. does one reward this behavior? punish it? or ignore it? on the one hand, i can't condone riley getting aggressive with the Extreme Pacifist of All Time, Boscoe. on the other hand, his little head felt so sweet resting on my knee....
i decided that they had worked things out between them and there was no need for me to get involved. and so far, it hasn't happened again. but if it does, what to do?
fortunately, usually we all get along just fine:
also....
wake up and smell the coffee has awarded this to me:
damn, it's cute.
i've got quite a few people i'm passing it on to. some of them have already gotten the award, to which i say, hey! can't a person have more than one buddy?
so here goes. my blog buddies officially are:
kaycie (and i know wake up just gave this to you.)
Rotten correspondent (my twin)
babaloo (one of my first blog buddies!)
willowtree (please don't harm these kitties!)
-ann (who else sends me Barry's tea, county cork cookies, and toys for my dogs??)
and Lane (a kindred soul.)
