Spring is just a mere six weeks away!
Yesterday the weather was great; it felt like a hint of spring, finally. The four big beautiful ice rinks at Como were empty--I guess hockey tournament season is over--so after we walked the boys I got my skates and headed over there for a half hour of skating.
Each time I go, I get a little better--a little less shuffle-shuffle-shuffle-coast, and a little more smooth Hans Brinker-style kick and glide. I got it going a couple of times, turning smoothly at the end of the rink past the bright pink 'YOU MUST HAVE A PERMIT TO SKATE HERE' signs that were flapping in the breeze. (Permit? Ha! I laugh at your permit!)
But every time I thought about what I was doing, I'd suddenly get wobbly and lurchy and stumble and nearly fall. So I guess there is a lesson here: Mindless is better! (Possibly not in all aspects of life.)
Riley and I went for a long walk in the afternoon. it was about 32 degrees and the sun was shining and there was a gentle breeze, and there were big puddles that he effortless leaped over and I trudged around ... it was lovely. Birds were singing.
It's supposed to get nasty cold again tomorrow, but the cold snaps are shorter now, and the warm spells are a little warmer. Only six more weeks of winter....or seven...
