A pretty good day

Boscoe went in for his glucose curve test this morning, which meant Riley was home alone all day. So we asked Debbie the dog walker if she would take him for a little outing. She did, and left a note saying not to tell Boscoe but that Riley seemed perfectly happy without him. They went down to the lake and she fed Riley a steady stream of treats, which kept him calm amidst all of the joggers and strollers and bicycles of early spring.

It was such a lovely day: blue sky, full sunshine, melting snow. I walked to Orchestra Hall on my lunch break to pick up some tickets--free tickets!--to hear the Preservation Hall Jazz Band perform with the Minnesota Orchestra later this month. I felt twinges in my injured ankle, but no more than twinges. It was a lovely, sloppy walk, with puddles and squinty bright sun.

Doug's day wasn't bad either--it's his Thursday, essentially, because he has a four-day weekend coming up.

And Boscoe? He came rushing in the back door (with Doug) at about 6:30 p.m., passing his glucose test with flying colors. No change in his condition, no change in his insulin amount, and a small weight gain. (That wouldn't be good for me, but it's great for a scrawny old diabetic border collie.)

He was so excited that he tried to mount Riley and they slid across the hardwood floor of the front hallway. And then I leashed them both up and took them for a walk under the stars.

Poop watch: Untouched. But you can't have everything.
