Three pictures from Bucharest

I'll write about the trip this weekend. For now, apologies for being away so long. And here are three images from my whirlwind trip to Romania last week--two days traveling, and four days there.

The architecture is a blend of pre-communist, communist, and post-communist.

The part of town known as the Old City is starting to come back as a nightlife area of restaurants, cafes, and bars, with street markets and musicians.  But much of it is still vacant and crumbling.

A Thanksgiving like no other. I went to dinner knowing just two people--two other American journalists--and ended the evening with about 30 new wonderful friends. Thankful, indeed.
