Looking around on Petfinder is like deciding to take just a sniff of the hot fudge sundae with butter caramel sauce and chocolate chip topping. Hahahaha! I say, go ahead, get a spoon...
Myself I think it does no harm to look. There's one little doggy out there just waiting for you to fall in love with and be whisked back to your loving home, so when he/she comes alomg grab the moment. This one looks so sweet.
Love Brenda's comment! Looking just helps nail down what you really want--as if there could be a bad choice like little boy over little girl, one breed vs another. This baby will more than likely grow into her milkbone tag. :-)
Sometimes when Willie is fast asleep I sneak on petfinders looking for German shepherd mixes. . .
Silly...you know by now that you don't get to choose the right time! :). The right dog will show up in Petfinder or wherever just when he or she darn well pleases. And that puppy is cute and does look like Riley!
She is a cutie to be sure. I don't think it is too soon at all to look, the timing will be perfect for you when it comes. I hate to admit it but I often cruise Petfinder too, for the future as we aren't sure how much longer our Reggie will hang in there. I will anxiously await the news someday that you have brought another puppy home. Have a great Sunday. Noreen
So glad to hear that you are doing better. When we had to have my beloved Barney put down, we swore we'd never ever get another dog -- we just get too attached.
We lasted about a month, until we saw the ad for the one-year-old rescue beagle. We've had Lucie for four years now, and have never had a better dog. So sweet, so loving, so gentle.
You'll know without being told when it's time to get Riley a friend.
You look and the right dog will come along. That's how those things work out. I had Tyke before Jesker died. That was too soon maybe but he came along when he did. Opportunity presents itself, grab it when you can.
ah, no, i haven't called, Sandy, though every time I look at her face I know i could love that dog.
but to be honest, we are enjoying having just one well-behaved non-special-needs dog. we are not quite ready to get consumed with a puppy yet. the other day doug said, "hey! we can go out after work some night!" which has not been true for three years.
that puppy is so cute i'm sure someone will adopt her very quickly. she is not hte dog for us. but that dog, as so many of you say, will come..
go for it. there is a story thing, saying thing floating around the net about the greatest way to honor, remember, beloved pet that has died is to give its place to another dog in need. there are so many dogs needing LOVING homes, with good care, good food, exercise, that if you are truly a dog person - which you guys obviously are - then take in a dog who needs you and who might otherwise be put down or languish in a bad situation.
ahhh glad youve started looking. theres nothing wrong with just 1 dog but if you get the urge for another you go for it!!! seems like you have lots and lots of love to spare and when i got stormy it really took the stab of pain from losing deefa away and he would of wanted me to share my love with another furry friend xxx
She is cute. And I don't think "too soon" can apply in some cases. Either you have room for another animal in your life or you don't, in my view of things. Your heart and head know.
We looked for a friend for our Teeko within a few days after Molly had passed. To help him is what we said because it was so stressful on him watching her decline. Two weeks later we brought home Coby.Within 72 hours Teeko start to enjoy his new little buddy and our home also started healing. It was just one year on January 29 since Molly left us, now two nearly identical boys have taken over there are smiles everyday from their antics or least from Coby.Keep looking Riley will enjoy a young companion .
What a cutie. Remember, you don't need to get another pup. There are tons of great adult dogs looking for homes. Check out "Friends of Mpls Animal Control" on FB or Secondhand Hounds on FB. You'll know when you're ready.
I do that all the time! I hope you don't mind me randomly commenting but I LOVE dogs! check out my blog at www.dufferdoodle.blogspot.com all about dogs!

For me, it's never too soon, but I understand.

I said that was the end of my dogs when Chelsea died and a year later Ansa found me. The best dog ever.
Your dog will find you. Or not.

Best thing you can do
Not too soon. Like everyone else here has said, it'll happen. Maybe now, maybe later, you'll know when the right dog comes along.
so..since I am one of the last commenters, have you called yet?
cute :-)
As everyone else said, the right dog will come along at the right time. If it's not this one, it'll be another. You'll know it's right.
We left you an award over on our blog at http://kendalldog.com
It's a good sign but why not just one dog? Says the person who has many, many dogs!

AHHH...I was hoping it wouldn't take you too long to start 'looking'!!

When the right dog comes along you won't be able to resist. I also like having just one dog:)

I once got a new dog that looked very like a young version of my beloved old deceased dog, Muzzie. I never quite forgave her for not being Muzzie.
But I wept when she in turn died!
Oh, there is no such thing as too soon. She needs you. You need her. She'll be wonderful for Riley!
It's not too soon. I've had a new kitten for a week!
Definitely a good sign. Go for it!

She is adorable! I'm thinking maybe you need each other!
We lasted 10 days and haven't regretted bringing Rory home one bit!
Beautiful blog! Following you from The Doggy Blogger.
